Pool Vacuums

Pool vacuums are small machines, mainly used to get rid of small sediments, leaves, grass, algae and other kind of debris from swimming pools. They are in use since 1974, invented by South African hydraulics engineer Ferdinand Chauvier.

Today in market there are four main types of pool vacuums available, depending on their design and working style – Return-side, Pressure-side, Suction-side, and Electronic & Robotic pool vacuums.

Return – side: Working of these pool vacuums is mainly based on the flow of huge amount of water, so they require an additional powerful pump, to provide the required movement. Majority of old pool vacuums use this process, but as they are not economical – due to the requirement of additional powerful pump, they are seldom used nowadays.

Suction – side: These types of pool vacuums use the skimmer for suction action. Dirt and other kind of debris is sucked and then cleaned by the filter. It can also be called as a vacuum cleaner powered by water. One drawback of these kinds of pool vacuums is that you are unable to clean the surface of water that effectively. Suction cleaner was also the first automatic pool cleaner.

Pressure- side: These types of pool vacuums use water pressure to push the dirt and other kind of sediments into a bag, where they are stirred forcefully and later subjected to filtering. One advantage these types hold over the suction types is that they clean the surface of water effectively. One drawback related to them is that they are not actually taking out the dirt , the dirt is stirred forcefully to be acted upon by filter.

Electronic & Robotic: They are operated and controlled by computers and sensors. The movements of robots are based on the wheels, sometimes also called as tracks, which are controlled by motor through belts. Few have an additional motor attached, third motor in this design , it helps in turning and changing the direction. Rotating brushes are fitted in these cleaners, which do the scrubbing of the tiles and the removed dirt is collected in washable bags. The tiles are scrubbed using suction power to grip the floor, which ensures that all the debris is removed. One important feature of them is the presence of a timer, which gives the user the advantage of choosing when should it start and when should it stop. These kinds are most recommended pool vacuums
